Twin brothers Tarzan and Arab Nasser in their feature debut, Dégradé, a bride-to-be, a pregnant woman, a bitter divorcée, a devout woman and a pill-popping addict are enjoying a leisurely day in Christine’s beauty salon. But as gunfire breaks out across the street, the women are trapped in the salon for thirteen hours. The film blends caricature and reality to emphasize the complexity of life in Gaza where people are afflicted by multiple nodes of pressure, and where the social space of women is increasingly circumscribed by these pressures.
